How Long Does Resin Bound Stone Actually Last?

Real-world lifespan of resin bound stone driveways and patios, what affects longevity, and how it compares to concrete and asphalt.

The honest answer: a properly installed resin bound stone driveway or patio should look and perform like new for 25+ years, and we back ours with a written lifetime warranty against cracking, delamination and color failure.

What actually fails on cheaper surfaces

  • Concrete: cracks (5–8 yrs), spalling from salt (3–5 yrs), staining (immediate)
  • Asphalt: cracks and oxidation (5–7 yrs), needs sealing every 2–3 yrs
  • Pavers: heave, weeds in joints, sand washout (annual maintenance)

What controls resin bound stone lifespan

  1. Resin chemistry. We only use UV-stable aliphatic resin — won't yellow or chalk.
  2. Substrate prep. A flexible matrix laid on a sound, properly graded base lasts forever. Skipping prep is how cheap installs fail.
  3. Installer skill. The mix, troweling, and cure are what determine bond strength.
  4. Aggregate quality. Washed, graded, dry stone — anything less and the matrix is compromised.

Maintenance: rinse and go

Hose it off a couple of times a year. That's it. No sealing, no repointing, no crack repair. Plow with a plastic blade or rubber-edged plow.
